MANUFACTURING ENGINEER – CAM (Afternoon Shift)

We are currently seeking a Manufacturing Engineer - CAM in our Bayswater Head Office reporting through to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager. The manufacturing engineer will apply manufacturing engineering principles, techniques & systems to implement and support production processes that achieve productivity, quality, output, and OH&S deliverables & targets as set; whilst creating a collaborative, cohesive and supportive environment for Machine Shop personnel.

Key accountabilities of the role will include but are not limited to;

 

Machining Process Design
 
  • Select appropriate tooling for applications with optimal efficiency and safety in mind.
  • Design Jigs, Fixtures + Gauging to optimize productivity and meet item specifications
  • Develop CAM + Process methods with setup + cycle reduction, high quality, reliability and repeatability and safety as priorities.
  • Standardize + rationalize all aspects of machine component manufacture across all areas of allocated Work Centre
  • Source and procure all required infrastructure, tooling, fixturing and gauging where required

People Management

 

  • Provide technical and process related advice, information and documentation to Machine Shop operators that includes; the safe operation of the machine, tooling, manufacturing process, and ancillary equipment
  • Support the training of new and existing staff to maintain the complement of skills and knowledge
  • Conduct effective employee relations and provide feedback to management/supervisors about employee relations issues and or grievances
  • Conduct regular tool box talks with Machine Shop operators of the allocated Work Centre to ensure clear communication and continuity of the process requirements
Production Engineering
 
  • Apply manufacturing methods, using Lean principles to in line with the Anca Production System (APS) philosophies
  • Work with Design Engineers to clarify + optimise design intent to ensure all manufacturing requirements are met for all New Product + Process Introduction
  • Work with vendors to ensure parts/equipment/technology/consumables are fit for purpose
  • Work with relevant Machine Shop Supervisor(s) to provide timely support to improve production flow and address quality issues
  • Use root cause analysis to identify and eliminate quality issues to progress towards a “Right First Time” manufacturing process
  • Work closely with the tooling, fixturing + gauging suppliers to optimise quality, delivery, and cost
  • Use resources efficiently to provide high standard of product delivery
  •  Ensure that the Change Management Process is strictly followed to ensure process and revision changes are correctly managed and delivered as per the effectivity dates
Data Management
 
  • Prepare necessary supporting documentation for production staff, to aid manufacture, assembly, and inspection throughout the product life cycle
  • Precisely manage the Manufacturing Engineering database(s) to prevent and eliminate errors
MRP and ERP Systems
 
  • Create routes and Bills of Materials in MRP system on a timely basis.
  • Create policies and communicate MRP related information to internal stake holders
  • Ensure high level of data integrity is maintained to improve the accuracy of information
Continuous Improvement
 
  • Project manage continuous improvement activities from feasibility to implementation, to achieve departmental budgets
  • Conduct cost-benefit analysis on all continuous improvement projects to aid justification in departmental objectives
  • Initiate improvement projects based on data analysis and extensive research
 
 

Ideally the successful candidate will possess the below skills, attributes and experience;

  • Proven competency in component manufacture through traditional machining techniques with a minimum of 5yrs experience in these areas
  • Proven comprehension of design principles and their application to manufacturing engineering and production environments
  • Proven comprehension of CNC machine programs and functions, including Macro’s and probing cycles
  • Proven experience in applying Siemens CAD + CAM NX software within a production environment
  • Ability to operate CNC machines and demonstrate to staff when required
  • Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to autonomously manage small to large projects, prioritising tasks and delivering within agreed timeframes
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise and negotiate with internal and external suppliers
  • Demonstrated understanding of routes and BOM structure
  • Demonstrated root cause analysis and problem solving skills
  • Proven skills in Microsoft Office applications to an Intermediate Level, particularly in MS Excel
  • Ability to enter and maintain accurate data in Database, PLM, and ERP systems
  • Uncompromising attitude towards health and safet
